Uganda is right, but we’re unsafe!

SIR— I wish to commend the Uganda Government for respecting international law on Ituri, Congo

SIR— I wish to commend the Uganda Government for respecting international law on Ituri, Congo.

When the UPDF were still with us, we led a normal life like our brothers and sisters in other parts of the Grate Lakes Region.

But now we have gone back to the times of terror. We the people under chief Kawa Gave have known no peace since UPDF started its first phase of withdrawal.

Our people are always on the look out expecting attacks by the Lendu militia. There is frequent looting and raiding by the Lendu.

The presence of the peacekeepers is helping, but we are not sure how they are going to handle the Lendu. We are worried that if this situation continues without an immediate solution, we the Hema, might be wiped out.

I appeal to the regional leaders and the international community to re-consider their decisions and save the situation because its not only the Hema who are dying but even the peacekeepers are not safe.
