Strange death
KAMULI — A body of an unidentified man, suspected to have committed suicide, was on Tuesday discovered hanging by a rope tied to a beam in a church in Namunyi, Nabuwigulu sub-county. District Police chief Fred Ssekiwere said the decomposing body, clad in a black coat and trousers, had the eyes gorged out. He said the residents could not identify the body.

Defiler jailed
JINJA — The High Court on Thursday sentenced a peasant to 14 years in jail after he was convicted of defiling a seven-year-old girl. James Tirulaga, 35, lured the girl into unlawful sex after offering her sh200. Justice David Wangutusi, committed Tirulaga to serve the sentence in Kirinya Prison. Tirulaga committed the offence on March 18, 2001, at Kabowa in Budondo sub-county.

UHRC bitter
SOROTI — Increased teenage pregnancies have been blamed on extra-marital affairs. Uganda Human Rights Commission (UHRC) eastern region officer, George Ufuyuru, said most of the children involved in teenage pregnancies were illegitimate. He said his office had received 27% of child neglect complaints this year. He said teenage mothers born out of wedlock had resorted to sugar-daddies for support. Ufuyuru said girlfriends and concubines had lodged 90% of child neglect cases.
