MUKONO district council has rejected a directive to interdict the chief administrative officer (CAO), Sam Kisense and his deputy Eddy Mwanje over alleged misappropriation of Electoral Commission funds.
The two allegedly failed to account for the money in 2000.
The directive to interdict them was communicated by the acting Solicitor General, L. Tibaruha, in an April 28 letter to the district chairman.
Tibaruha also threatened to suspend the release of grants and other funds to the district in case the two were not interdicted.
Councillors debated over Tibaruha’s letter at an emergency session on Thursday during a three-day retreat at Entebbe Golf View Inn.
This was after the LC5 chairman, Godfrey Ddamulira Kyeyune, informed the council that their action on the matter had an ultimatum of 14 days, ending May 11.
Tibaruha did not indicate whether the directive was from President Yoweri Museveni, but during the burial of Basoga Nsadhu the President is reported to have said he would prosecute eight district officials implicated in the misappropriation of public funds.
The districts included Mpigi, Mukono, Mubende, Mbale and Rakai, where over sh270m is reported to have been diverted. Ends
