The Omukama of Bunyoro Kitara Kingdom, Solomon Gafabusa Iguru, has asked the Government to consider him a major stakeholder, who should be consulted before the sale of Kinyara Sugar Company, reports Martin Kaahwa.

“I hear and read in the papers that the Government is selling Kinyara. May I remind the people doing the job of selling Kinyara that I have a major stake in this enterprise, as an initiator and landlord,” Iguru said.

He was on Saturday speaking during the Kinyara Open Golf tournament organised by Kinyara Golf Club.

Accompanied by the Omugo (his wife), Margaret Karunga Adyeeri, he said the land on which the company premises were built belonged to his late father Sir Tito Winyi IV.

“Government should know that my late father Sir Tito Winyi, in 1962 decided to set up a plantation and the factory here. He allotted 20,000 acres of land for this purpose and at the time of his death he had not sold the land to anyone.

“As the landlord, I and my subjects must enjoy the benefits,” Iguru said.

He warned the Movement Government against acting like the past regimes.

“In 1967 the leaders of Uganda misbehaved by knocking the Omukama and his kingdom into comma,” he said.

Iguru said, “I like golf because there is no foul play in the game. I am asking the leaders to behave like golfers and not wrestlers.”
