The enthusiasm shown by the business community in Adjumani towards business management training has reflected their thirst for success.
Robert Kyukyu, Business Uganda Development Scheme (BUDS) manager, said 43 small- scale businesses turned up for the first such training session in the district recently.
“This is very unique because in many districts where we conduct training, few individual business people or associations attend. But for the first session in Adjumani, 43 companies attended under an umbrella Organisation of Adjumani Business Community,” Kyukyu said.
BUDS provides support for small enterprises through acquisition of know-how for small enterprises.
Kyukyu said the one- week training conducted in Adjumani covered business management skills, communication skills, conducting marketing surveys, business budgeting, among others.
“Sometimes, people think that when they have money, then they can automatically do business. But they forget that business skills are very critical in managing business. After this training, they realise that it is good,” Kyukyu said.
He said the business community there complained of insecurity and lack of banking facilities.
“Cheques for example take a month to mature and the deductions are big, but that is not how business is done,” he said.
Each trader paid sh170,000 to participate, but BUDS will refund half of it.
