AFTER a two-year struggle, the Uganda Nurses and Midwives Council has okayed a new nursing training institution in Nakaseke, Luweero district.
Nakaseke Mwagalwa School of Nursing, which has been on the waiting list, was finally licenced on Tuesday after its owners met the minimum conditions required by the professional body.
The granting of the license followed a tour of the sh700m project by members of the Uganda Nurses and Midwives Council as well as officials from the Ministry of Education and Sports.
The delegation included Mrs. Kakande, the chairperson of the council, Joseph Abala the assistant commissioner in charge of vocational education, and Sophie Odongo Okino, the principal health training officer.
Kakande, whose council has for the last two years declined to grant the institution a licence, said she was very impressed by the infrastructure and facilities installed at the school.
“It is very impressive. There are not many such institutions in the country which are as dignified as this one,” she said after an extensive day long tour.
Abala said the proprietors had put in much effort and could therefore start training eligible Ugandans.
The school proprietor, Alooni Musisi Mwagalwa, said it had taken him two years of waiting in suspense before his dream became a reality.
He said the school will open this month with 36 students.
He said intending students had been interviewed by the school authorities. They are to collect their admission letters from the school on Monday and Tuesday next week. Ends
