Another town, another beauty contest, and another born-again Christian winner.

This time, though, this one is studying environmental science at Uganda’s most prestigious university, Makerere.

The 21-year-old Julian Migamba was on Saturday crowned Miss Eastern Uganda 2003 at a Miss Uganda regional final held at the Mbale Resort Hotel.

She beat 12 other girls to become the second girl to qualify for the finals of the Miss Uganda 2003 beauty pageant to be held in Munyonyo in August.

Last week Maureen Akisa was declared Miss Northern Uganda 2003 in Lira.

There were rumours after the show that at least one of the girls who participated was a dancer with the Amanda’s Moonlight Angels but that could not be confirmed.

Migamba, who said she grew up with her uncle and aunt in Kampala, originally came from Tororo and confessed she was a born-again Christian, although she would not say what church she attends.

Christian Apio, a 19-year-old student at Mbale Senior Secondary School, was first runner-up, while Jessica Akiring, 23, from Kumi, was third runner-up.

Six other girls qualified to participate in the Kampala pre-selections to be held on June 7 at Munyonyo near Kampala.
