KAMPALA Boxing Club (KBC), UPDF and Kakira have pulled out of the 2003 Mukwanga boxing cup which starts on Sunday at Lugogo Indoor Stadium.

KBC, which will be missing its first UABF event since 1954, withdrew on Wednesday sighting diversion of finances to pay a huge electricity bill for which UEB disconnected power at the gym a year ago.

UPDF tendered in their withdrawal letter saying their boxers were taken for a military training at Kasengi.

According to UABF general secretary Sande Musoke, Kakira’s withdrawal was prompted by inadequate preparations.

The number of teams expected is now reduced to nine and Musoke is worried the competition may hit a snag.

“We are forcing it otherwise we have not received any financial help, and although we depend on the registration fees from clubs, we have received words instead,” Musoke said.
