THE Ministry of Gender, Labour and Social Development is to set up a commission to investigate cases of discrimination against People with Disabilities (PWDs).

The Swedish Ambassador, Erik Aberg, said this recently at a workshop for the Africa Union of the Blind at Fairway Hotel, Kampala.

He said there is discrimination of persons with disabilities in Africa especially in areas of employment.

“One of the tasks of this commission is to safeguard persons with disabilities against such treatment. It will also look deeply into their problems,” Aberg said.

State minister for the elderly and disability Florence Nayiga Sekabira said many African governments do not consider the problems of the blind especially when it comes to statistics of the blind.
