AUSTRIA-based Helmut Kutin, the President of SOS Children’s Villages worldwide (SOS Kinderdorf), has condemned terrorist Joseph Kony and the Lord’s Resistance Army (LRA) for the suffering inflicted upon civilians.
“We are very concerned about the plight of children, especially in conflict areas like Gulu. The children and their parents have been suffering at the hand of Kony’s terrorism. This is very bad,” said Kutin (right), who arrived in Uganda yesterday for a three-day visit as part of his regional working tour of eastern Africa.
The US$10m SOS facilities in Uganda not only cares for and educates over 1,000 vulnerable children, but also provides youth development, infant and school education plus medical care to hundreds of others.
Accompanied by the Austrian consul, Karl Wipfler, the SOS Children Villages Uganda’s chairman board of trustees, the SOS Uganda education projects principal, Josephine Namusisi and other officials, Kutin, who last visited Uganda in 1999, toured the organisation’s new facilities at Abayita Ababiri-Entebbe whose ground was broken by the Nnabagereka, Sylvia Nagginda, in 2000 and Kakiri SOS Village.
“I have to visit the children in our Emergency Relief and Community Programme in Pece, Gulu. We hope those people who have caused so much suffering can agree to talk peace at least for the sake of children,” he said.
