A youthful man boarded an Mpererwe-bound taxi at Hotel Equatoria recently. With sh1,000 in his pocket, he expected to spend sh500 to Mpererwe and sh300 from Mpererwe to Gayaza. The man’s undoing was sharing a seat with a skimpily-clad holiday-maker.
He made it clear he was interested in her. The girl responded positively and even gave him her home number, school address and e-mail address. The conductor must have assumed the two were travelling together: When The man handed over the sh1,000 note, the conductor deducted fare for two without bothering to ask.
This left the man with no money at all. He could not bring himself to ask for the balance loudly. He tried sign language but the conductor did not understand. The girl thanked the man profusely and left.
The poor fellow had to walk the remainder of the journey. Ends
