A Human rights advocate embarrassed a Headmaster of a Mukono primary school at a public lecture on corporal punishments in schools at Kyambogo university. The headmaster was in support of corporal punishments in schools.
“We must encourage corporal punishments to maintain discipline in schools. Children of today need a lot of caning to put sense into their heads,” he said. But one of the participants, a human rights advocate and former school-mate of the headmaster, exposed the headmaster: “Sir I think you should be the last person to encourage corporal punishments: Today you are limping as result of it. Before the incident you were a normal person and a good footballer. In fact girls at school including myself used to admire you then. Why do you want children to suffer your fate?” the concerned lady asked.
All the participants applauded the human rights advocate and thanked her for revealing such information.
The headmaster tried to protest, claiming that it was a personal attack, but all the other people present agreed that the human rights activist was in order. The debate ended with most participants strongly against corporal punishment. Ends
