FORMER Vice-President Dr. Speciosa Wandira Kazibwe yesterday joined the back bench and immediately declared that the House smells much healthier than a decade ago. She also said she would remain MP.

In 1994, Kazibwe angered male MPs when she accused them of wearing smelly socks in Parliament.

Kazibwe, a qualified surgeon, told MPs that she would soon leave for the US and pursue a doctorate in policy and economics but would continue as MP for Kigulu South constituency.

Ibanda North MP Guma Gumisiriza had sought clarification from Kazibwe whether she would quit her post as MP and give way to people itching to replace her.

“I’m one person who disappoints. Whoever wants my constituency should wait until I do what I did to the presidency (resign).”

“I have not resigned from my constituency. Going for studies does not mean one has to resign his or her seat,” Kazibwe said after the plenary sitting.

She said remaining MP would keep her busy, adding that redundant people are usually disorganised.

She said, besides, there are several MPs in the House who are studying but have not resigned.

“Why is it that Wandira Kazibwe is the one who should resign?” she asked.

She said being vice-president is a suffocating job and lamented that many times she was “wrongly accused” of parroting the President. She said the Constitution dictates that a VP does what is assigned to them by the President.
