THE Uganda Amateur Athletics Federation (UAAF) annual general assembly will go ahead on Saturday as planned, NCS said yesterday.
Acting National Council of Sports general secretary John Odyek said the only item on agenda at the AGM will be elections. The polls start 9.00am at Lugogo and anyone interested in improving athletics can stand.
Each district sports officer or inspector of schools should send names of two delegates that will represent them in the assembly to NCS not later than today.
The UAAF assembly aborted late last year when the status of several delegates ready to vote was questioned.
NCS put an interim committee to run the association despite threats by the outgoing officials of a ban from IAAF. IAAF gave NCS a green light to reform UAAF.
Former chairman Elijah Mushemeza and Mbarara University’s Dan Tamwesigire are set to stand for the top job. Outgoing chairman Sulaiman Habib declined another term while efforts to convince athletics’ leading sponsor Michael Ezra to stand seem to have failed.
