EMMANUEL Cardinal Wamala has consecrated Fr. Robert Muhiirwa Bishop of Fort Portal Diocese, replacing long serving Paul Kalanda.

EMMANUEL Cardinal Wamala has consecrated Fr. Robert Muhiirwa Bishop of Fort Portal Diocese, replacing long serving Paul Kalanda.
The ceremony attended by Apostolic nuncio Christophe Pierre and Arch-Bishops Paul Bakyenga of Mbarara, John Baptist Odama of Gulu, James Odong of Tororo and about 20 other Bishops took place at St. Mary’s Minor Seminary, Virika on Sunday.
Third deputy premier and minister for Public Service Henry Muganwa Kajura represented President Yoweri Museveni.
Born to the late Methodio Kasaija and late Ann-Mary Kisembo in 1958, Muhirwa who has hitherto been Virika parish priest becomes the third African Bishop to head the diocese following the late Serapio Magambo and Kalanda.
He is the fourth diocesan Bishop from the white Vincent McCauley who founded the diocese in 1961.
Muhiirwa said he would remain constant in proclaiming the gospel of faith and supporting unity of the Catholic Church.
