As Gaetano continues to wow the world in the Reality TV show Big Brother (both in Africa and Europe), our representative in the Africa Idols, Godfrey Angunda is waiting to shine. Idols Africa is a continent-wide reality TV talent search show conducted by M-Net, a South African-based Pay TV.
Angunda, 23, a born-again student at Kyambogo University who hails from West Nile, beat over 108 contestants to become Uganda’s pop Idol. He left for Gold Reef City in Johannesburg on June 19 where, together with nine other African contestants from Zimbabwe, Zambia, Malawi, Namibia, Botswana, Tanzania, Ghana, Nigeria and Swaziland, he has been auditioning with a group of top 100 South African contestants selected through a nation-wide search.
Idols began on the M-Net channel on Sunday June 22 right after we watched Gaetano being whisked off to the UK Big Brother Africa house and will continue with a weekly 90-minute Sunday show until the final on October 19. From Monday July 21, M-Net will also screen a 30-minute results show in which the Top 10 finalists will be announced. With any luck, Angunda, just like Gaetano, might raise this nation’s flag high once again and have the world speak of a different story about Uganda but Joseph Kony.
