MUKONO — Work came to a halt at the district headquarters on Thursday as Patrick Isabirye, a CID officer, resisted arrest by the UPDF reserve forces and Police personnel. The resident district commissioner, Charles Mubiru, ordered for Isabirye’s arrest for allegedly extorting a sh200,000 bribe from a businesswoman. Isabirye was later arrested.

New Kadhi appointed
MUKONO — The Mufti of Uganda, Sheikh Shaban Mubajje, has appointed a new district chief Kadhi for Mukono and Kayunga. Sheikh Ahmed Kiyaga, a student of Mbale University, was on Friday installed as chief Kadhi, replacing Sheikh Ahmed Mulyazaawo, who resigned earlier this year due to wrangles. Uganda Muslim Supreme Council (UMSC) Secretary General Hajji Edris Kasenene presided over the function.

Teachers speak out
KAMPALA — Uganda Primary School Headteachers Association chairperson Mukasa Lusambu on Thursday said teachers should provide moral support to those seeking an end to the war in Northern Uganda. He was speaking during a general meeting of primary school heads at Bat Valley Primary School.

Mufti to go to north
ARUA — The Mufti, Sheikh Shaban Ramadhan Mubajje, will tour northern Uganda soon. A recent letter signed by the Secretary General of Uganda Muslim Supreme Council, Al-Hajji Edris Kasenene, said the Mufti and the UMSC management team would visit Nebbi, Arua, Madi, Acholi and Lango Muslim districts. Kasenene said the tour would assess what is happening.
