LIRA district LC5 chairman Franco Ojur has challenged the Government and the UPDF to arm the Langi to fight the Lord’s Resistance Army (LRA) as they did in Teso region.
“The criteria used when LRA attacked Teso should be done in Lira. What is wrong with Lango region? Why not also arm the Langi to fight Kony,†Ojur asked.
He was addressing Lira district council in the council hall.
Ojur said he had made effort to meet President Yoweri Museveni on the escalating security situation in Lango sub-region but had failed.
He said the Government should deploy UPDF who are Langi to command the war against Kony because they know the areas and they can communicate easily with the people.
Ojur said Minakulo in Apac district is calm because ‘a son of the soil’ and he has managed to flush out the rebels.
“Kony is not fighting to overthrow the Government but is looking for the cheap way of survival and getting wealth. The Langi must be armed to defend themselves and their property,†he said.
Ojur said there are people willing to fight like army veterans and ex-soldiers.
