The Ministry of Health has launched a seven-day mass treatment programme for residents of Katakwi district who were displaced by the Lord’s Resistance Army rebels, reports Nathan Etengu.
State Minister for health in charge of general duties Capt. Mike Mukula said the exercise started on Thursday.
He said a team of medical personnel had arrived from Kampala to participate in the campaign to cover all the three counties in Katakwi district.
“Our priority was to restore peace in the region. Time has now come to protect the lives of those displaced by the rebels,” Mukula said.
Addressing residents at Soroti Sports Club, Mukula said all those injured during the attacks would be treated and all the children immunised.
“Once the campaign is over, normal primary health care activities will resume in the district,” Mukula said during the rally attended by most local leaders.
