Uncertainty reigns in the corridors of FUFA headquarters at Mengo on whether Uganda Cranes’ coaching post is vacant or occupied.
Hardly a day after FUFA vice-president (technical), John Ssemanobe revealed that Argentine Pedro Pasculli is still the national coach, the soccer-governing body’s secretary, Haruna Mawanda has refuted those claims.
Mawanda yesterday maintained that the post for national team tactician was unfilled and open to application, contradicting Ssemanobe who told the press that Pasculli still holds the post.
“We have not yet appointed any coach. The technical committee’s meeting(tomorrow) is expected to evaluate the national team, draw out its programme and also study the national coaches applications,” Mawanda told the weekly Nile Special Super League press conference at Lugogo.
Mawanda said that the technical committee can not hire a coach but only recommend one to the executive. “The executive has the final decision. The technical committee will recommend those they feel can handle the national team and the executive will verify their terms and choose the best one.”
Mawanda also said the coaches issue is the main agenda at tomorrow’s meeting despite Ssemanobe’s disclosure that that issue did not feature on the agenda.
“What Ssemanobe said is false and misinforming,” Mawanda said.
The race for the job to guide Cranes to 2006 remains between Pasculli, Dragan Popadic, Allan Serris and Ivosajh Scheich.
