GIANTS Express, SC Villa and KCC travelled to play away but only the Red Eagles, 1-0 losers to Police, returned empty handed.

Champions SC Villa took advantage of Express’ defeat to go ten points clear in the league with a narrow victory away to Mbarara FC. KCC also won 2-0. Ekuchu Kasongo scored the goal in the 8th minute in Mbarara.

In Masindi, first half goals by Nathan Mutenza and Abubaker Tabula secured KCC their 11th league win.

Express’ defeat was made more significant by Villa’s triumph yesterday.

Villa has a comfortable 52 points from 18 matches while nearest challenger Express is on 42 points from 17 matches.

Express’ first league defeat in 17 games could effectively end the title race, this weekend’s mouth-watering clash with Villa notwithstanding.

Police confirmed its status as a nemesis of title hopefuls with a deserved victory. This follows their equally shocking stoppage of Villa’s unbeaten run last season.

There is always a thin line between ascendancy and decline as the Red Eagles found out on Saturday.

When it looked like they were gathering momentum to challenge Villa all the way, Jan Fray’s side let slip the chance.

Fray’s decision to tamper with the line up that destroyed Iganga did not pay dividends.

Express now faces a herculean task of stopping Villa from clinching a sixth straight championship, and record 15th league title.
