JINJA — A shamba boy who reportedly attempted to defile a six-year-old girl after she asked him for some sugarcane has been remanded in Kirinya prison over indecent assault. Najeeb Bogere of Budondo reportedly committed the offence on May 17. Grade One Magistrate Vincent Mugabo presided over the case.

KAPCHORWA — The district council has approved a sh9.5b budget for the year 2003/04. Finance secretary Lawrence Mangusho said sh4.4b was allocated for education and sports, and sh2.2b for health and environment. He said the expenditure outstripped local revenue.
