THE Government is to set up a commission of inquiry into the persistent land conflicts in Kibaale district, Dr Crispus Kiyonga, the National Political Commissar, told Parliament on Thursday.

Kiyonga (pictured) was briefing MPs on the measures being taken to the conflicts in Kibaale district, which has intermittently experienced violence between the Banyoro and Bakiga settlers.

The Kibaale conflict featured during the general debate on the Budget which ended on Thursday.

Dr Kiyonga said Cabinet had given a go-ahead to the appointment of the commission of inquiry into the land problem. “The Commission would be set up as soon as possible,” he said.

Kiyonga said Cabinet had approved the establishment of the National Land Fund task force.
