KENYA Airways (KQ) has ordered for three new Boeing 777 aircrafts that will enter service next year.
Titus Naikuni, the Kenya Airways group Chief Executive Officer said yesterday, the first 330-seater Boeing 777 would start working in May 2004 and the other two 12 months later.
“Our vision to become a world-class network airline by 2005 is gradually becoming a reality with the airline’s consistent year on year profitability,” Naikuni said at the Sheraton Hotel Kampala. KQ also officially opened their new offices at the Jubilee Insurance Centre.
Naikuni said they will start flights to Bangkok and Hong Kong in the Asia Pacific region on September 3.
“These operations will undoubtedly increase tourist and business travel between Africa and the far east. Plans are at an advanced stage to start operations to Cape Town,” he said.
“We are also looking at a route to USA via West Africa next year. With a new management Jomo Kenyatta airport will offer improved services in few months.”
Naikuti disclosed that in a new strategic partnership Kenya Airways has acquired 49 percent equity in Precision Air of Tanzania to give customers the widest choice of destinations in East Africa. The partnership offers connections between East African hubs and Kilimanjaro, Mwanza, Tabora, Dodoma, Shinyanga, Zanzibar and Morogoro.
“Kenya Airways will continue to play its rightful role in bringing the people of East Africa closer in a bid to achieve cooperation and integration of East African Community for rapid social and economic development,” he said.
