The First deputy premier, Lt. Gen. Moses Ali, has directed the management of Lwala Girls secondary to re-open the school.
He said security would be provided to the Catholic mission complex to protect all the schools, the church parish and the mission hospital.

“You should think of opening the school right away so that the students who have already missed one month do not continue to stay in the villages,” Moses Ali said.
He gave the directive to the vice-chairman of the school’s board of governors, Martin Ejupu, while on a visit to the school recently.

“Think of re-opening the school. Measures have already been taken to secure the Teso region as a whole. This area will also be given special consideration,” he said.

He asked the state minister for environment, Lt. Gen. Jeje Odongo, to take up the matter and have it discussed by the UPDF leadership at the 3rd Infantry division tactical headquarters in Soroti.

He said the school should not remain closed because of the fear that engulfed it after more than 60 students were abducted by the Lord’s Resistance army (LRA) rebels on June 24.

Moses Ali said his visit to the school was a sign of the solidarity the government had with the management, founding bodies and fraternity of the school and the neighbouring institutions.

“The school administration should not think that the Government has forgotten them,” he said.

He, however, noted with concern that none of the staff members and school administration personnel had returned to the school since the attacks.
