THE moment of truth has come for Godfrey Nyakana (left) to prove his sceptics wrong when he steps in the ring at Nakivubo this evening.

The former world-ranked fighter makes a return to the professional circuit when he slugs it out with South African-based Cameroonian Diedon Katonang Takou in a non-title super welter-weight fight tonight.

And if the posturing so far is anything to go by, boxing fans are in for an entertaining evening.

“I’m well for the fight. I’m a hard man and I know he (Nyakana) is also hard. The judges will decide who is harder. I can not lose by a knock out,” said Katonang at a pre-fight press conference.

Nyakana counter-punched: “I have been training for the last six months. I’m smarter, wiser, faster and more experienced.”

Indeed, the odds do favour Nyakana who will have the patriotic Ugandans rallying behind him. And at 32, he is the much younger fighter with an impressive record of 30-3-1-20 compared to 35-year-old Katonang’s 11-5-2-7.
