The Government has awarded the tender for upgrading of the section of Pakwach-Karuma road from Olwiyo to Karuma.

State minister for works Andraule Awuzu said in an interview at Parliament recently that Solel Boneh International (SBI), an Isreali firm, won the tender.

He said SBI, which is also working on the Arua-Nebbi road, was the only company that bid to upgrade the section because most companies feared the insecurity in the area.

Awuzu said the evaluation for the remaining section of the road would be finalised soon.

A source from the Road Agency Formation Unit said several companies had bid for the upgrading of the section from Pakwach to Olwiyo.

Meanwhile, SBI managing director Guy Ratiner said they would complete the sh42b Arua-Nebbi road by next month, almost year before the expiry of the contractual period.
