UGANDA Rugby Football Union (URFU) has named 22 players who will face Madagascar in the Confederation of Africa Rugby (CAR) Super Nine tie in Antananarivo on Sunday.

The squad with experienced and determined players will leave for Antananarivo on Thursday via South Africa. The match winner will storm the championship final.
National coach, Yayiro Kasasa, said that the squad was selected on merit and expressed confidence that it will bring back victory.

On the squad are celebrated players Allan Musoke and Robert Seguya whose skills ensured Uganda thumped Botswana last year to lift the Super Six trophy.

Brothers Fred and Timothy Mudola, scrum half Gamma Faisal, second centre David Bukenya and prop Gideon Kamya are all lined up to give Madagascar a taste.

“I have no doubt that the boys will do well, they believe in themselves and above all have passion for winning,” Kasasa said.

Uganda humiliated the highly rated Zimbabwe Sables 25-3 in their first encounter of the Super Nine in Kampala last month.

The Rugby Cranes need a win on Sunday to reach the finals following the early exit of Zimbabwe that lost points after failing to honour their game against Madagascar in Harare.

The winner will host pool A winners Morocco.

Meanwhile, the national sevens team to play in the Henley Championships in the United Kingdom August 7-10 will be named next week.

Country manager Herbert Wafula said that the players’ fitness would be re-examined after Madagascar before naming the sevens team.

In the local Bell Uganda Cup, Buffaloes thumped Mongers 32-9 at Kampala club on Saturday to book Mango Kobs at the quarterfinals.

The championships will, however, be postponed following the international engagements.
