ONE person was yesterday killed and two others wounded when the Police raided Tendero village in Kiboga district, to evict over 1,800 people from a disputed piece of land.

Stanley Mwenyi died after several bullets hit him in the stomach as gunfire rocked the village for a couple of hours.

Fred Musimbi and Patrick Wamanyara, were rushed to Hoima Regional Referral Hospital where they underwent operations to remove bullets from their bodies.

The gruesome incident follows a long-standing dispute between the landlord, John Wanzala and the residents over a two square-mile piece of land.

The Kiboga district Police commander, Okot Obwanna, regretted the incident saying, “We are handling it very seriously.”

Obwanna said the Special Police Constables led by a policeman from Bukwiri Police post, were forced to open fire to disperse a violent mob.

He said the residents rioted and attempted to disarm the Police, prompting the gunfire.
Sources said the Special Police Constables and officers who participated in the eviction had gone into hiding.
