THE leader of the Tabliq sect, Sulaiman Kakeeto, has advised Muslims to avoid arguments about the return of former president Idi Amin (right), but pray for his recovery.
“As Muslims, our concern should not be Amin’s return to Uganda, but we are concerned about praying for his health to improve,” Kakeeto said.
He was addressing Muslims at Nakesero Mosque on Friday after the Jumah prayers.
Muslims leaders, particularly district Imams, had earlier been advised by the leader of Imams, Sheikh Noor Muzaata, to perform a special prayer for Amin.
Amin has been in the intensive care unit in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia in King Faisal Specialist Hospital for two weeks. Mid-last week he was reported by the BBC as being clinically dead.
Kakeeto said, “We are aware of the atrocities Amin committed in this country but we cannot fail to pray for him.”
He said it was every Muslim’s responsibility and obligation to visit and pray for the sick. “But since we cannot travel to Saudi Arabia to visit Amin, we are now supposed to fulfil the obligation of praying for him to improve.” Kakeeto appealed to Muslims to credit Amin for promoting the Muslim community.
