MASINDI district chairman John Majara has accused some local councils of frustrating government development projects in their areas because they are opposed to his leadership.
He said this while commissioning 16 new classrooms, headteachers’ offices and stores at Kitamba, Isimba and Kibagani Kyairagwire primary schools in Bwijanga sub-county recently.
He said two boreholes and a classroom block were rejected in Kahembe and Ntooma parishes in Bwijanga sub-county.
Majara said LCs also sabotaged the opening of Ntooma Kihagani feeder road.
“They frustrate these projects to accuse me of non-performance during the evaluation exercise. They forget that it is their own people suffering,” Majara said.
The classrooms were part of the 20 four-classroom blocks constructed with funds from the school facilities grant.
Other projects include construction of teachers’ quarters and acquiring over 400 desks.
Majara said the two-classroom block for Kihagani was transferred to another village.
He pledged water tanks, boreholes and office furniture to the school.
He said some old school buildings would be renovated using funds from the local government development programme.
Majara was accompanied by the deputy district speaker, Fox Kahebwa, the LC5 secretary for production, Mary Mujumura, and that for education and sports, Kanaginagi Ateenyi.
The area LC3 chairman, Julius Kahiirwa, urged parents to provide scholastic materials for their children.
