BARCLAYS Bank Uganda Limited has donated $22,000 (about sh44m) towards the work of SOS Children’s villages in Uganda.

Barclays managing director Frank Griffiths handed over the cheque to the chairman Karl Wipfler in Kakiri on Tuesday.

Griffiths said the bank considers it important to give something back to the community which they have served for a long time.

“Since we came to Uganda 75 years ago, the orphan problem has never been so bad. As a corporate entity working for the good of the people of this country, we had to come up and do something,” he said.

Griffiths said every year, the bank spends about one million pounds on worthy causes on the African continent.

He said this year, sh175m would be spent on community-based projects like the youths, HIV/AIDS prevention and support and people with disabilities.
The Kakiri Home has 500 children.
