More than 4,000 people from Lango region have formed a voluntary force to join the UPDF in fighting the Lord’s resistance army (LRA) rebels

More than 4,000 people from Lango region have formed a voluntary force to join the UPDF in fighting the Lord’s resistance army (LRA) rebels.
The group, operating under the banner of the Amuka (Rhino) Defence Unit, was on Thursday launched by the state minister for health Capt. Mike Mukula, at a ceremony attended by the paramount chief of Lango, Yosam Odur at the Uganda Technical College, Lira.
Odur received one of the guns given by the Government to help the people from the Lango sub-region to fight the rebels.
“The time has now come for us to face the enemy,†Odur told the over 500 people who attended the ceremony. He said the guns should be given out immediately to the volunteers to prepare themselves for any rebel attack.
State minister for children affairs Okot Ogong and MPs, John Eresu (Kaberamaido), Samson Anyolo (Soroti), Alex Okot (Moroto), the Teso Arrow Group coordinator, Musa Ecweru, Kaberamaido LC5 chairman, Victor Ekesu and Lira RDC Egou-Engwau attended the ceremony.
Teso Arrow Group, which comprises mainly former UPA rebels was formed last month to fight LRA incursions into Teso region.
