Kids lunch
WAKISO — The district is planning to pass a by-law forcing all primary schools to provide lunch. Education officer Male Sekamatte, who was addressing parents and teachers of Our Lady of Good Counsel recently, said although parents were supposed to pack lunch for children under the Universal Primary Education programme, very few did.

Cop defence
KAMPALA — A senior Police officer was recently put to task to defend himself in a corruption and abuse of office case against him. Detective Inspector Ensio Odoch is accused of receiving a sh1m bribe from the managing director of Excel Insurance Company, David Walakira Mukasa, in order to drop an embezzlement case against him.

Case flops
KAMPALA — The High Court on Friday ruled that the 135 slum dwellers of Plots 80 and 82 in Kiyembe and Jambula villages in Bugoloobi, have no claim over the land. Principal Judge Herbert Ntabgoba, rejected their claim, saying the land belonged to Silver Springs Hotel.

Strike on
KASESE — Hundreds of patients at Bwera Hospital in Bukonzo West and students in the area, on Friday organised a sit-down strike in protest of the newly launched development fund. All the residents are required to pay sh2,000 towards the development fund.
