SUDAN, Somalia and Djibouti were missing as the ITF/CAT East Africa U-13 training camp started in earnest at Lugogo Tennis Club yesterday.

“They confirmed participation but didn’t show up at the airport. May be they will come later but we haven’t got any communication from them,” Uganda Tennis Association (UTA) official James Kasumba revealed yesterday.

Prince Madema, the ITF Zonal development officer for East and Southern Africa, is conducting the training camp that has 41 children from Uganda, Rwanda, Burundi, Ethiopia, Kenya, Seychelles and Tanzania.

The hosts have 12 young players who were selected from the national schools championship.

All competitors are required to attend the training ahead of the prestigious ITF/CAT East Africa U-14 circuit that gets underway on Friday at the same venue.

Team coaches are assisting Madema in the camp.

ITF Grand Slam Development Fund and UTA are sponsors of the event aimed at developing the game.
