State minister for primary health care Dr. Alex Kamugisha on Sunday directed the immediate arrest of the district engineer and the district director of health services in Lira, accusing them of conspiring with a contractor to do shoddy work on the Alebtong Hospital theatre.

“The Government has spent a lot of money on building the theatre and the doctor’s house, but the work is terrible,” Kamugisha said.

He was touring Alebtong hospital in Aloi sub-county, to assess the possibility of upgrading it into a district hospital after Lira hospital was upgraded into a regional referral.

He was accompanied by area MP Dr. Alex Okot, Lira vice-chairperson Rebecca Otengo and deputy RDC Johnson Butamanya.

Kamugisha said the Government could not lose such amounts of money to corrupt officials.

“I am directing you to arrest the district engineer who should be charged for causing the financial loss,” he said.
