SC VILLA showed they are ready to hold off any challenge for their NSSL crown with a hard earned 2-0 victory over URA.

A classic Philip Obwiny free kick at the stroke of halftime and a beautifully executed second half counter attack, finished by Edgar Watson, took Villa to 63 points, six more than Express.

Fielding a largely different side from the one that drew with KCC, Villa struggled to create holes in URA’s defence.

Gonzaga Kasongo was dropped to the bench and replaced by Edgar Watson in attack.

Watson turned back the clock with an energetic performance in an unfamiliar role that troubled URA.

He forced defender Lawrence Kizito into a careless foul on the edge of the box to leave Obwiny in his favoured set piece territory.

Obwiny’s perfectly weighed ball entered the net at the far post to send the Villa bench, in particular coach Micho Sredojevic wild.

Watson sealed the match midway through the second half from a well worked counter attack involving Hakim Magumba.

In Iganga, goalkeeper Burhan Abdul had to pull off some acrobatic saves to earn a point for the hosts against Police.

Today, Masaka LC locks horns with KCC in an intriguing battle for third place in the league.

Masaka are keen to revenge after losing to KCC in the Kakungulu Cup last week through a golden goal by Henry Kabeta.

The hosts will be buoyed by the return of striker Edrisa Mutebi, who has been out of action for three weeks because of a knee injury.
