UGANDA’S only two representatives to the World Championship have stepped up their preparation with high altitude training.

Dorcus Inzikuru and Boniface Kiprop, who will both participate in the 5000m, will represent the country in the biennial competition.

The two athletes are targeting to qualify for the final on their debut in the event August 23-30 in Paris.

Kiprop, whose target is to set a new national record in the 5000m, has traced his roots back to Kapchorwa, where he went after the Africa Junior Championship.

Kiprop, who has been upcountry for the past fortnight, is expected to return to Kampala on Sunday before his departure to France on August 19.

“He had a good warm-up in the Africa Junior Championship (he won two gold medals) and I’m sure he will be able to improve his personal best,” said Kiprop’s mentor, Godfrey Nuwagaba.

Inzikuru, on the other hand, has gone to the mountainous country of Switzerland, where she is training under coach Canova Renato.

Renato, an instructor to middle and long distance coaches in Asia and Africa, is also handling a number of other athletes in his camp ahead of the championship.
