HE has promoted Uganda internationally through his performances in Kenya, Rwanda and Burundi.

He was voted Best Vocalist at the Annual Vocal Competitions in Kenya in December 2002. He also won the award for Best Vocalist at the Annual Kareoke Competitions at Kampala’s Sabrina’s Pub. Kenneth Mawanda prides himself in his unique style of music, he calls Kintabuli (a mixture of various music styles).

Mawanda, also called the Kenny Wanda of Uganda, has now released an eight-track album Mummy, which will be launched at Sabrina’s Pub, on August 31.

“I integrated the various styles to capture a wider audience,” says the 26-year-old musician. The tracks tackle social issues like sexual promiscuity, HIV/AIDS and responsible parenthood. Mawanda (pictured) has also recorded his songs on video which will soon start to play on East African TV.
