Police arrest 21 students
RAKAI — The Police in Kalisizo on Tuesday arrested 21 students of St. Andrews Matale S.S. The students attempted to lynch headmaster Godfrey Katongole, accusing him of failure to give them Mock examinations set by the Catholic Diocese. District Police chief Patrick Ntoole said the Police rushed to the school and dispersed the students who had besieged the headmaster.

Guard jailed over robbery
KAMPALA — A guard alleged to have turned his gun on his client and robbed him of over sh12m was on Tuesday charged with robbery before Buganda Road Court. Kenneth Mutebe, 26, of Makindye Division was remanded in Luzira Prison untill August 28 after he was arrested in Iganga last week. Mutebe allegedly robbed the money from Surgah Singh of Steel Rolling Mills in July.

Special hire taxis held
KAMPALA — The Police on Tuesday impounded 10 special hire vehicles without chequered bans and roof lights in Kawempe division. Traffic officer Paul Baguma said, “Many of these special hire vehicles had been operating without chequered bans commonly known as ‘ekikuubo’, roof lights and road licences.”

Man held over coning
KAMPALA — The Police on Wednesday arrested a suspected conman who allegedly defrauded former Masaka RDC Rose Mutonyi of sh25m in a fake house deal. Old Kampala Police boss Abbey Kisubi said, Emmanuel Ssali, 67, of Kawempe, was picked from Kikuubo.

UTODA campaigns
KAMPALA — Uganda Taxi Operators and Drivers’ Association (UTODA) begun a one-month road safety campaign to reduce accidents involving public service vehicles. UTODA national boss John Ndyomugenyi said they will train the drivers in safe driving, first aid and respect for pedestrians.
