THE extension of the Lake Victoria Environmental Manag-ement Project (LVEMP) has hit a snag, state minister for lands Baguma Isoke, has said.

At the same time, Baguma and his senior Kahinda Otafiire yesterday rejected a proposal by Ken Lukyamuzi (Rubaga South) to have free public toilets in urban areas.

They were appearing before the committee on natural resources yesterday. The committee was scrutinising the budget and policy statement of the Ministry of Water, Lands and Environment.

The committee heard that Uganda could fail to secure a US$4.5m (about sh9b) loan from the World Bank for the extension of LVEMP if there is no parliamentary approval by tomorrow.

The National Executive Secretary LVEMP, Dr. F. L. Orach-Meza, said the project was supposed to end on June 30, 2002, but because of unfinished activities, the Government asked for it to be continued.
He said the unfinished work was expected to cost US$4.5m and that World Bank and Cabinet approved the request.
