THE minister of state for Disability and the elderly, Florence Nayiga, has said the Government will soon introduce a policy on the establishment of national disability and elderly councils.

Nayiga was recently presiding over Platinum Jubilee celebrations of Nkokonjeru Providence Home in Mukono district.

The home was started in 1927 by the Congregation of the Franciscan Missionary Sisters of Africa.

The home caters for the needy by offering residential care for AIDS orphans, training skills and education.

Nayiga said the Government came up with vital policies and legislation including the affirmative action policy that ensures that vulnerable groups are represented in Parliament.

“The government doubtlessly appreciates the importance of vulnerable groups and their potential in contributing to national development,” she said.

She said the Ministry of Gender, Labour and Social development was working on the Social Sector Development Investment plan, to provide a framework for the implementation of the policy.
