LIRA — Save the Children Norway has started distributing stationery worth sh31m to schools of internally displaced pupils in the district. The NGO donated 8,000 dozens of exercise books, 3,500 boxes of pens, 4,000 boxes of pencils, 80 portable chalkboards and 300 lesson plan books. The programme officer, Hamisi Okello, said over 15,620 pupils will benefit from the project. Okello was recently distributing the items to three schools relocated to Boroboro Demonstration Primary School in Erute South.

NDA warns local healers
LIRA — The National Drug Authority has warned traditional healers in Lango that they risk prosecution if they do not stop advertising themselves in the media. Assistant chief administrative officer George Adoko issued the warning during an HIV/AIDS project implementation review meeting at Lira Garden Inn Hotel recently. He said some witchdoctors were masquerading as traditional healers.

Girl’s body got in sewer

GULU — The body of 15-yr-old Faida was discovered in a sewer in Pabbo camp. Pabbo LC3 chairman Christopher Ojera said the girl went missing a week ago. He said the camp had suffered a lot of tragic incidents, including rebel attacks and infernos but, “This particular incident has scared the camp dwellers beyond measure." He said the residents suspect it could be a new wave of crime.

Churches donate food

LIRA — Three local churches in Kyoga county have contributed five tones of fresh cassava to the internally displaced people. According to the mobiliser, James Auna, the churches included St Mary Catholic Church, St. Andrew and Lejon Maria.
