Kibiri takes the national music trophy

Budo Junior School lost this year’s annual music, dance and drama primary school trophy to Kibiri primary school after winning it for three consecutive years.

Budo Junior School lost this year’s annual music, dance and drama primary school trophy to Kibiri primary school after winning it for three consecutive years. The four-day festival held at the National Theatre from August 21 to 24 attracted 46 schools from all the districts in Uganda under the theme “Fight against HIV/ AIDS among the youth.”

Kibiri primary school scored 705 points and beat Budo which came second with 689 points and Mukono Central with 683 came third. Pajule Primary School from Pader received a trophy for having travelled from a war torn area to attend the festival.

Stage presentations included plays traditional folk songs, and creative dances. Each school presented eight items that included western original composition, African original composition, traditional folk song, folk dance, sight singing, instrumental composition creative dance and a play.

Schools were expected to present some of the items in line with this year’s theme HIV/AIDS and the Youth.

The guest of honour, Moses Otyek, the director of education standards and agencies in the Ministry of Education said one of the main causes of AIDS in schools is the use of drugs and alcohol by the students.

To celebrate their success, Kibiri held a bull roasting bash at their school in Makindye on Monday evening. But Kibiri did not only emerge as overall winners. They had pupils chosen as the best actor, William Matovu, best instrumental player, Samantha Atwongire, best dancer and soloist, Brian Kasule and Francis Kayanga, the headmaster of Kibiri was the best scriptwriter (for the play).
