BAD blood continues to flow between Burahya County MP Basaliza Mwesige and Kabarole district chairman, Augustine Kayonga with the latter calling the former a night dancer and a boy.

Basaliza denies the accusation and says Kayonga was angered because he (Basaliza) had questioned his “shoddy and dictatorial administration.”

“I am not a night dancer,” Basaliza told a press conference at parliamentary buildings yesterday. “That is character assassination,” he added.

Basaliza accused Kayonga of diverting land meant for building the district head office, interfering with district commissions and boards’ work and extensively flouting the Local Government Act.

He alleged that Kayonga is a beneficiary in the shoddy construction work of classrooms under the Schools Facilitation Grant programme in the district.
The MP said the district has failed to pay rent to Toro kingdom and now owes it sh80m in arrears. He said the kingdom would displace the district when its planned Mountains of the Moon University is inaugurated soon.

“The district is in a crisis,” Basaliza said. “We are trying to mobilise for two thirds of members of parliament so that the President takes over the leadership of Kabarole.”

He said MPs from the district would convene a forum and expose Kayonga. “I have talked to the MPs from the district, even ministers agree with me that there is bad leadership in Kabarole,” he said.
He said Museveni too questioned Kayonga’s performance when he visited the district.
