MUKONO Woman MP Lydia Balemezi wants parliament to pass a bye-law that outlaws mini dresses and tight jeans in public places, reports Nicholas Kajoba.

Balemezi said this during celebrations to mark the International women’s day at Wakisi sub-county in Mukono district over the weekend.

The theme was “stop violence against women in the households.”

Pader Woman MP Santa Okot attended the function.

“I ask fellow MPs to pass a bye-law prohibiting indecent dressing in public places because this has led to immorality in our society,” she said.

She advised young girls to abstain from sex as a way of fighting AIDS.

She blamed the increased number of rape and defilement cases in the country on indecent dressing, especially in public places.

She lamented that even older women wore tight jeans and short dresses, which she said were demeaning them.

Balemezi commended the movement government for affirmative action, which she said had allowed several women to attain high positions in government departments.
