<b>KCC to close dirty salons<br>KAMPALA</b> — Kampala City Council (KCC) health inspectors have warned of an increase in disease infections if salons in the city do not undergo basic inspection.

KAMPALA
— Kampala City Council (KCC) health inspectors have warned of an increase in disease infections if salons in the city do not undergo basic inspection. In this respect KCC will soon inspect all salons in the city Muhammad Kirumira, KCC’s Chief Health Inspector, revealed this recently at a seminar for Uganda Salon Operators and Hairdressers Association (USOHA) at the City Chambers.

Cholera scare

— Two people have died and 20 are ill as a result of a cholera outbreak in Kasese. The two death occurred in Muhokya sub-county and 12 other patients were on September 2 rushed to Kilembe Hospital. Glasio Thembo, the LC III chairman said in an interview that the most affected villages were Kisenyi, Rutike and Muhokya.

Lab services

— Government has been asked to strengthen the capacity of laboratory services at health centre level as one way of lowering the number of people suffering from malaria and fighting the HIV/AIDS. The acting director of the USAID funded Aids/HIV Integrated Model district (AIM) programme, Dr Paul Waibale, said this on Thursday while addressing members of the Soroti District HIV/AID Committee at the district chambers.

Bilharzia in schools
MAYUGE
— An outbreak of bilharzia has been reported in many primary schools and surrounding communities in Mayuge district. Peter Naireka, a clinical officer at Mayuge health unit said Bugoto Primary School is the worst hit after an evaluation team from the ministry of health found 83% of pupils sampled to be infected.

Iganga funds
Iganga
— Iganga District has received a boost of sh50m from the Ministry of Finance, to facilitate health projects that had stalled for a year. The funds will be directed towards construction of a theatre and quarters for health personnel at Kiyunga health centre, in Luuka county, Dr. David Muwanguzi, the District Director of health services said in a recent interview.
