HENRY Kabeta again did what KCC strikers are increasingly failing to effect as he led the Lugogo side to a first leg Kakungulu Cup semi-final win over Express at Nakivubo.

The attacking midfielder twice headed in bringing his tally to nine goals to strengthen his position as KCC’s top scorer in Uganda’s second most prestigious competition.

Second half substitute Mark Mwambo later narrowed the margin for Express. But even then, with a seemingly unfit KCC panting for a breather, what was still fresh in the spectators’ minds was Kabeta’s second goal.

Kabeta, facing away from goal close to the near post, caught everyone unaware as he brushed the ball to the far end of the net.

Today, SC Villa hosts Police in the second semifinal, first leg at Namboole — a tie that presents Police coach Paul Hasule a last shot at glory this season, adds Fred Kaweesi.

While Villa’s league title credence has been marred by atrocity, today’s game offers them chance to shake off the suspicion that shrouded their historical outrageous 22-goal blitz against Akol early this month.

The departures of lead striker Ekuchu Kasongo to Belgium and Nestroy Kizito to France means Villa will face a somewhat tall order, but tactician Micho Sredejovic has banished all doubts.

“We will depend on the brilliance of the available players to win both legs. Police is a talented side but we are up to the task,” he said.

Villa’s midfield will have to be at its creative best and the onus has been assigned to skipper Edgar Watson. The attack will be lifted by the pocket-sized duo of Hakim Magumba and Phillip Ssozi who had to pass late fitness tests.

Police are however desperate to have something tangible to show for an unexpectedly impressive season and will be totally focussed for the tie. “We are prepared and we will give the game the best,” said Hasule, a former Villa captain and coach.
