THE State minister for northern reconstruction, Grace Akello, has said part of the Northern Uganda Social Action Fund(NUSAF) would be used to fight HIV/AIDS in the war-torn parts of the region.
The World Bank recently gave Uganda a $100m (about sh200b) grant to fight poverty in the north under NUSAF.
Akello was recently addressing members of Soroti-based Non Governmental Organisations (NGOs) fighting HIV/AIDS at the district chambers.
“We cannot talk about reconstructing the region when HIV/AIDS is killing most of our people,†Akello said.
Akello said people living in the war ravaged area had been exposed to HIV/AIDS and there was need to take immediate action.
She said war had led to immorality and most young girls were having sex.
She also hailed the US for committing $20m (about sh2b) for the HIV/AIDS war.
