WORK was paralysed at Celtel Uganda head offices on Wampewo Avenue yesterday after an anonymous caller claimed a bomb was planted on the third floor, reports Henry Mukasa.
The company’s security and emergency sirens went off while staff evacuated the three-storey building and police were called in. The anti-terrorism squad with two sniffer dogs combed the building and precincts.
After two hours at about 3:11 pm, police declared the offices free of any bomb threat.
“We have checked and found nothing. But we had to respond as usual, because it’s our work,” an anti terrorism officer said, but declined to give his names.
Lars Anderson, the Celtel managing director said “It (bomb scare) happens, but it’s always nice when there’s no bomb,” as staff who had taken refuge at the nearby Hotel Africana went back to work.Ends
